Background

About my History, Skills , and Interests

1961
Born in San Bernardino, CA
Too hot and smoggy! But my little orange grove hometown, Rialto, was blessed with clear air from the desert.
1979-1983
UC San Diego Music Major
I studied Electronic Music, Psychoacoustics, Ear Training, etc.
1983-1989
Phone technician
For AT&T and then senior tech for several small, newer companies. Good money, lots of overtime. Gave me solid knowledge of electrical signals and wire characteristics. 1988 College for Recording Arts, San Francisco I trained as an engineer at a recording studio. Did I go for it? No; they all wanted me to intern for free.
1989-1994
McCune Audio/Video
Great experience in the live audio field and my introduction to computer/video signal sytems and projection.
1994-present
Freelance Audio/Video Engineer
Can't beat the feeling of being your own guy!
Skills
  • Audio
I have run nearly every conceivable setup from 1 to 56 mics including business meetings, orchestral concerts, stage plays, outdoor events, film shoots, field recordings, club bands and religious services.
  • Video/Computer
I am fluent on many of the current LCD projectors and understand color balance, lensing and pixelation issues. I'm excellent at converging two or more projectors on the same screen and optimizing for different scan rates from different sources. My understanding of signal routing helps immensely when it comes to setting up and running complex video tape, computer and camera switching systems.
  • Personality
I am great at calming your clients, letting them know that they're being taken care of just by my quiet assurance and efficient organization. I am cheerful and prepared to continue working until the job is completely finished. I am willing to travel for periods of a week or so.
When I'm Not Working
  • I like to ride my hybrid mountain bikes through treacherous city and (rarely) country terrain.
  • I read a lot! Sci-Fi, history, non-fiction, WWII and spy stuff: a gamut.
  • I dance the Argentine Tango with my gal and friends at several dance halls in the Bay Area.
  • I like to acquire and record 78rpm discs to CDR. I love restoring old tango and hot jazz recordings with my computer-based audio editor.
